Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.


The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

    The food is always amazing and the drinks are outstanding. Atmosphere was definitely energetic, and busy. Unfortunately our server wasn’t the best and not attentive. Instead of a quick birthday dinner, it turned into a long 2 and a half hour dinner for just 3 people. We had to rely on a different server who was helpful. Just a poor experience but previous other times were wonderful.

    Sampled several appetizers and shared entrees which was more than enough food. Really great dishes and incredible (hard to find) wines to enhance the experience. Actually less expensive than I was expecting and good value for an exceptional dinner. Wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. Lizagna had a sense of humor too.

    Food was great!! Service was good except it was very loud and hard to hear what the server was suggesting and they forgot to come back a few times when asked for pepper and napkin. AC was on high so pretty cold but nothing awful.

    It was our special annual get together with girlfriends. We knew it would be loud and noisy, and we deal with that but the calamari was some of the toughest we’ve ever had. But the salad that our waiter served, to replace the calamari, was the best I’ve ever had! Of course we will return we love Sammies!

    Most smooth dining experience ever! Fast service. Waiter was incredibly attentive! Best Italian food in Austin!!

    We had a lovely evening from the calamari to the tiramisu everything was delight. Our server, Dustin, was knowledgeable and helpful. Beautiful presentation and delicious pastas.
