Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.


The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

    Great service by Eva during a busy valentines weekend dinner. Each course was better than the last and our wine service was amazing.

    After visiting sammie’s for my birthday I would absolutely come back. The chicken parmigiana was outstanding and the fried mozzarella is a must. The atmosphere was a vibe and definitely great if you’re looking for something dark with some warm lighting, small setting, and original. My only complaint would be it was entirely too loud the night we went it was hard to have conversation due to how much noise in a small space. maybe just because of the day i’m not sure but other than that great!! very nice waiter was very timely and brought free gelato!

    The food was great and we enjoyed most of the dishes but what I really didn’t like is how rushed we were by every single staff member. We were four girl friends trying to catch up and talk but the server was in such rush for us to order every single course. After the check was dropped at least three people kept picking up the check to see if we had placed a credit card within a matter of 10 minutes. The food was good but I don’t think we’ll be back due to how rushed we felt and unwanted. If you need the table so badly, maybe you should set a time limit before we book the reservation!

    Exceptional in every way. the lemoncello sidecars were delicious. the caesar salad was amazing. excellent service and ambiance . Can't wait to go back!
