Iconic, classic Italian restaurant established in 1963 by Lorenzo and Mara Berni. Osteria San Lorenzo opened with nine tables and it was an instant success. It now seats up to 180 with 2 private dining and event areas.

The cuisine was a combination of Tuscan, Piedmontese and Roman influences, which was at once popular with everyone in London. Unchanged by modern trends the food is light and uncomplicated using ancestral recipes whilst constantly introducing innovative seasonal specials.

I have no idea what the restaurant was like as it was closed when we arrived! I spoke with a member of staff who came to the door when we knocked and was surprised that Open Table was taking bookings during the afternoon when they didn’t reopen until the evening.

The service level is at best disinterested and unenthusiastic. The tables were all crowed into one area of the restaurant which meant one kept getting bumped as waiters and other guests moved around. It was Valentine's Day so one normally expects some extra effort/spark from the restaurant - there was none. The food was good, but not good enough to compensate for other deficiencies. We wont be going back there

San Lorenzo, in Knightsbridge's Beauchamp Place, is probably my favourite family-run Italian restaurant on the planet. The menu - focusing on classic dishes from Tuscany , Piemonte and Rome - is as good as you are going to find anywhere in Italy itself or outside of that beautiful country in my view. The wine list also reads extremely well ! Round that off with the friendliest welcome from the wonderfully interesting owner Lorenzo and his charming daughter Marina and you are guaranteed a great time. If you are really lucky you may find a special on the menu matching up to their unfussy yet spectacular Coniglio con Polenta - truly a joyous experience. 10/10

Authentic italian. Not pretentious. Not too expensive. Great selection of classics. Everything i tried was good. Calamari. Courgettes. Mozzarella. Fettuccine al ragu great desserts too.

Very relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent. There was some confusion when we arrived and we were just pointed to the area where our table was. The service was slow but as we were with family over from Los Angeles who we hadn’t seen for two years it didn’t actually matter in this instance.

Nice atmosphere. The service was a bit inconsistent. The food was good, not over the top. It was an enjoyable meal for our last meal in London.

The food was ok when it eventually arrived. It took ages and nobody seemed to care....despite adding 12.5% service charge automatically to the bill. I'm not sure how many times we had to ask for something 3 or 4 times....it got really annoying in the end. They forgot the wine completely , were incapable of bring a bottle of water and had 2 mix-ups with the food. It wasn't even busy.... This place really needs to do better on the service side as if not people will just go elsewhere.
