Serafina is a little gem of a restaurant, perched on top of Nob Hill, with views overlooking the city and Bay Bridge. We were recently awarded the prestigious Gambero Rosso as one of the best Italian restaurants in the US. Serafina was owner Maurizio Bruschi’s grandmother, and the name of her eponymous restaurant in the heart of Trastevere (Rome), where Maurizio first began making pizza at the age of 14. The executive chef is Umberto Cannarsa, a successful chef from Rome, who left his own restaurant in Rome to work with Maurizio again. The menu offers everything, including vegetarian options, but specializes in innovative Italian fish dishes, including fresh calamari, stuffed with olives, escarole, anchovies, drizzled with a potato leek sauce, as well as homemade pastas and dolci. The space is warm and elegant, where neighbors and friends can come together.

Tried to find a good Italian restaurant near the venue I was attending, randomly picked this one and it was exactly what I was hoping for! Delicious, Authentic, Small and locally owned, with the perfect ambiance! Took my daughter and niece and we left so incredibly satisfied! Can’t wait to go back.

Classic Italian cuisine with lasagna like your grandmother used to make (if you’re Italian) and calamari without the breading and frying but instead sautéed and served with lemon. The salmon carpaccio was my favorite, melt in your mouth savory with salt and pepper and olive oil. This is real Italian food and great for a date night. Go early because the restaurant is small and intimate so if large parties arrive you may feel drowned out by the noise.

Well.. the food and wine was delicious but the service was not the best. I made a late reservation because my friend and I had plans. We booked through open table a 9:45 reservation and we were on time. There were still 3 other parties ( one being a larger party) seated when we arrived. They were finishing up but nonetheless still seated. We were rushed to our table and told we must order food within 5 minutes. We were happy to oblige.. one of the men who waited on us was very kind and the other was abrupt and rude. They then took turns eating their own meals seated behind us… the kitchen staff had a very loud conversation in this very small dining room which was rude. I understand it was late but if this is how you are going to treat customers DO NOT TAKE A LATE RESERVATION!! Despite that, the food and wine was delicious. Under the right circumstances, I would like to think I would give it another chance but I am upset about the way my friend and I were treated.

A gem of a little San Francisco trattoria. Huge menu for such a small restaurant, great specials, and unique dishes. Authentic Italian.

Food was just okay. Pasta was overcooked, pinsa ( flatbread) was not good, too much cheese on top.

We had dinner at Serafina on NYE and it was our first time dining here. What a neighborhood gem! It is tiny and the tables are inches from one another, but it only added to the intimacy of the experience. The servers were all Italian, service was attentive, and the food was excellent. Prices were reasonable. I would recommend Serafina.
