Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Some of the best food I have ever tasted. The service was immaculate, clearing the table after each course and resetting it with new utensils. The staff were incredibly polite and always checking on us. The food was exceptional and really good value for money. Would definitely recommend this as a place to dine for any occasion, 5/5

Very enjoyable dining experience, actually exceeded expectations based on reading previous reviews . Food was delicious, choices added variety and class to usual options found in traditional Chinese restaurants, beautiful setting with unique oriental features , service was on point and professional, will definitely return .

We went for a 21st Birthday dinner and had a wonderful evening. The atmosphere was lovely and the interior very impressive, food was delicious and service excellent. 3 of us had the £50 set menu and one diner did their own thing. There was plenty to eat and we even brought some home, as we all ran out of space. My only slight negative was playing rather annoying Christmas music which didn't match the ambiance. We would have preferred a more authentic music experience to match the venue and food. On the whole we had a great evening and the surprise birthday cake treat was greatly appreciated. Highly recommended and we will be going again! Ps. Cocktails were divine!

Came here for a work do, The food was nice and the portion sizes were really good, I know the restaurant was busy but there was a long wait between courses and we very rarely saw our servers. I do believe if you get seated upstairs you lose a lot of the ambiance too. Maybe ask for a table downstairs.
