"In 1853 in Smith Flat, over the top of the Deep Blue Channel, the Three Mile House was built. Named for its distance from central Placerville on the trail to Carson City, today it is known as the Smith Flat House. It originally consisted of a general store, post office, bedroom, dining room and dance floor. Over the next century and a half the Smith Flat House served many purposes; operating as a wagon stop during the bonanza days of the Comstock mines, as well as a hotel and restaurant, run by the Fossati family, for decades. The Smith Flat House has long been a part of the history of El Dorado County, changing with the times, always enduring and providing a wonderful gathering space for the people. Today, we strive to continue this tradition as an inviting destination for excellent food, events and activities that nourish our community and those who visit our region."

food was well prepared and very enjoyable with a good selection. One of those places you look forward to going back to. It was none of that weird food stuff served in sacramento fine dining like poached cow hooves in a brandy sauce where you are told it is the latest thing and you should love it

First time here and won’t be the last. Went on a Friday evening. Not many people inside and didn’t need a reservation although we had made one. Restaurant is in a residential neighborhood away from the main town of Placerville. Very rustic inside but don’t let that fool you for the food quality. A little pricey but the meal and appetizers were good.

Excellent brunch this morning at Smith Flat House! Beautiful outside seating and great service. The Romano omelet was very flavorful and made with fresh vegetables and the Hay Stack (house made biscuit with country gravy sausage and eggs) did not disappoint, it was AMAZING! We will be back again.

The pork belly appetizer was literally one little piece and it was completely burned. Very disappointing

It was my wife’s Birthday and when I called to double confirm our reservation, I discovered we were going to have to sit outside due to a wedding party reserving inside. I was concerned because it is ridiculously hot still (early Oct). We were so pleased with everything. We were in shade and it was actually quite comfortable and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

We once again enjoyed eating in the outdoor patio area, which provided adequate shade for a warm early evening dinner. Service and food were both very pleasant.
