We currently offer in-house dining Tuesday through Sunday from 4:30-10:00pm (last dinner seating is at 9:30). Takeout is no longer available at this time. Patio dining is available Memorial Day weekend through September and always subject to weather. Please call us directly to reserve a patio table, but keep in mind that of the six 4-tops available outside, three are kept for walk-ins only.

Our restaurant features Paolo Laboa, international chef from Genova, Italy. His menu consists of simple, flavorful and authentic Northern Italian cuisine. This includes handmade pasta, crudo (raw fish), fresh pizza and an all-Italian wine list. Ingredients are sourced locally, from various Maine farms and from the Gulf of Maine, whenever possible.

We spend a lot of time in Portland, albeit mostly in the summer, so we’re very familiar with the restaurant scene there. Solo is usually pretty booked up and we prefer to keep our flexibility so we hadn’t tried it yet. So February in a snowstorm seemed like the perfect opportunity. I will say that the food was quite good, but not as good as they think it is. They were out of the first 3 bottles of wine I tried to order (probably off-season inventory control), so we ended up with a Barolo that was nice, but not worth the $150 price. Our appetizer, Con Pop Tosini Prosciutto di Parma was very good, even though we all found it a little “wet”, which took away from the crispness of the crust. The pasta entrees were solid and probably worth ordering again, but once again they were out of our first choices. All in all, it’s a solid place but just not quite as good as it could be. But in a town with not much of a high end Italian restaurant scene, it’s not too surprising. I still think Via Vechia is a little better and also a better value. And their service is less pretentious.

Food was indescribably good. We had the Mandilli al Vero Pesto Genovese gluten free, made with potato gnocchi, and the wild boar dish, finishing with Panna Cotta and Chocolate and Cream Gelati. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful with navigating the menu. They cater very well to individuals with allergies as well. Will be going here again. 10/10 experience. I will be dreaming of this food.

My one gripe is having to bear listening to others tables pretentious conversations throughout dinner, but the service, quality, and timing of the meal were, as always, impeccable. I would also love a more varied menu with a few more chicken or vegetarian options.
