Sushi Yūgen offers an authentic omakase experience, crafted by Head Chef Kyohei Igarashi, who brings expertise from Tokyo, mastering both kaiseki and sushi, including leading a Michelin-starred omakase counter.

Our restaurant features two dining experiences: an 8-seat Chef’s counter (Wed-Sat) and a 12-seat main sushi counter (Mon-Sat), each with unique menus.

Located in Toronto’s financial district, Sushi Yūgen embraces Japanese minimalism and wabi-sabi, celebrating beauty in imperfection and nature’s cycles. Our name, Yūgen, signifies ‘profound mystery and beauty,’ reflecting our philosophy.

Available Wednesday to Saturday - A meticulously crafted 16-18 course menu offering a unique and one of a kind experience combining exquisite Kaiseki inspired delicacies for the first half and refined omakase sushi for second half, all prepared and served personally by our seasoned head chef from Japan with prominent role at a Michelin-starred restaurant oversea before joining Sushi Yugen, using ingredients all sourced directly from Japan. Our Chef's Counter with Head Chef Kyohei Igarashi is available for dinner only at $275 per guest plus 18% gratuity & tax for parties of 4 and under and 20% gratuity & tax for party of 5 or more (Wednesday to Saturday).

Pros: food was good Cons: we were given our bill 3 different times. We ordered the add on wagyu and it wasn’t communicated so they started clearing our plates before we were done eating, after 3 reminders finally we were given the add on. They also forgot to give us our dessert and brought out our coats before we were even done eating. Overall not the experience we were expecting.

I thought it was a fun experience as a date night with my wife. I however wish the portion sizes were a little larger as we left feeling hungry. Maybe include something on top of the 10 pieces that is a little more filling. The other issue we had was the tea was scalding hot and burnt our mouths before enjoying all of the delicate fish. The servers never stopped filling it up so it wouldn’t cool down. Otherwise we really enjoyed the fish and the banter with the chef was great.

Came to celebrate our anniversary and my partners birthday, it was a real unique experience the sushi was incredible and both the chef and our server were so knowledgeable and engaged. The place had a calm vibe and was really worth the price. While we knew the dining experience would be over and done with quickly it would have been good to have something to make more of the night as it did fly by.

Wonderful ambiance and great date/friends night out! The sushi chef was very kind and explained each fish or dish to us! Loved the intimate vibes! The servers were also very friendly. I wrote that it was a friend’s birthday in the reservation, and they provided a little candle on the dessert with a peach drink free of charge! Would go back for a special occasion!

Waited an extra 10 mins to get in after our appointment time. the sushi/pieces and quality are very low for the 85/head charge, no otoro, no uni, no ebi, overall bad value and very mediocre taste. also no dessert.

Overall experience was great for an omakase at $98/person for an hour. Check in was easy and quick, they took our jacket, sat us down, confirmed our drinks, then started the course. Food and quality of ingredients is something you can’t get at a regular sushi joint or all you can eat. They were on point with the scheduling, including the billing and giving back our jackets, all done within an hour. Good place to start an omakase experience.

We chose the counter omakase menu due to time constraints (only 60 min). We were seated with 10 other guests and there were 2 chefs with our group. It was an all sushi menu (plus miso soup and dessert) and amazing! Each nigiri was delicious and prepared with a different “flavor/taste”. It was a perfect setting with attentive service for a birthday celebration. I highly recommend this restaurant and the counter omakase, and we will be returning for the special chef omakase on another occasion!

A bit pricey for the chefs counter but I also view it kind of like a concert! Amazing to witness chef working so hard and experiencing his signature Abalone.

went for lunch omakase $80, 12 course with miso soup, tuna handroll and 10 nigiris. Service top notch and the fish are fresh, my favorite were lean tuna and soy salmon.
