---The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, now run by the fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. Today's Berghoff menus have evolved to add newer, lighter, and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. In December 2018, the Berghoff family opened Adams Street Brewery, aptly named after the street they have called home for over a century, to nod to their brewing roots and commemorate the restaurant's 120th anniversary.

    The menu at Berghoff is a celebration of hearty German comfort food, with a few American twists. Known for its superb beer selection (including the Berghoff beer brewed in-house), the food is just as impressive.

    This was an experience I truly suggest anyone should have. Old world ambience and festive atmosphere. The food was heartfelt and ample. Very much comfort food. I had the pork shoulder which was tender and very tasteful.

    The Berghoff is a slice of Chicago with the first liquor license after Prohibition. It’s been years since I’ve visited the Berghoff, but the service was great, the venerable old dining room still cozy but brighter and more up-to-date and the German fare as reliably good.

    Clumsy, forgetful and clueless staff (forgetting orders repeatedly, getting drinks wrong, charging for items then not bringing them... the food is decent but not more than that, the drinks are shamelessly overpriced, the place is loud... I have no idea why people like it; we're not setting foot in there again.

    Loved everything about this place! Food was amazing, especially the potato pierogies. Our server, Susan, was wonderful. It was my first time here and I will definitely be back!

    We had a lovely dinner. We both had a veal dish and everything was delicious. And we topped it off with the apple strudel. We will definitely be back.
