My wife and I were looking for somewhere to take her brother to celebrate his birthday and after searching for places to go for Sunday lunch in Bristol we found The Cross House in Doynton. How glad we are that it was one of the pubs suggested! Set in a lovely part of the countryside not far from Bristol or Bath we sat and enjoyed what was one of the best Sunday lunches we’ve had in a long time. The roast beef was cooked perfectly and so good that we’ve booked for Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day! A true gem set in a beautiful part of the countryside!

It was a lovely surprise to experience a warm dining area with the underfloor heating.

A warm welcome, great food and prompt service. We opted for the bar this time and enjoyed a lovely lunch.

Staff very attentive and good excellent. Good menu choices, not too many but enough to cover all the options (meat fish vegetarian etc). Dining room nice plain decor with striking wooden beams. My only comment is the layout is a little functional and not that intimate a setting. However the pub part at the front was more cosy so maybe I’m just picky. Overall this is a minor comment and I would recommend and revisit on the strength of the food and the service, balanced against reasonable pricing.

Cross House Inn recommended by friends and it was a very good suggestion. We ate in The Barn that appeared to have recently been decorated to a very high standard. Very pleasant atmosphere. I had the Calves Liver as did my partner and it was delicious. My friend had a very generous helping of mussels and her husband had the battered haddock and chips. We all really enjoyed our food. Will definitely be going back.

Sunday lunch absolutely delicious especially the pork, crackling spot on, lovely portions, hot, staff very friendly and efficient, lovely pub, would of preferred the gravy to be a bit thicker but that’s personal taste. The puddings also delicious, would have preferred ice cream on the sticky toffee pudding rather than clotted cream but again that’s personal taste. We will be returning very soon. Everytime we go it gets better every time.

Once again we had a delicious meal at the Cross House tonight. We both had 3 courses and thoroughly enjoyed all of them ! For me, I hope the beetroot pakora stays on the menu - my favourite dish tonight !! We will be back again.

I’ve visited The Cross Hands a couple of times before that’s why I chose to dine there again today. Overall my visit was just perfect . The food was excellent. The service outstanding. There is a car park on site. Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon.
