A favorite Southwest Virginia landmark, The Farmhouse Restaurant has served the New River Valley since 1963. The authentic farm house, originally part of the Ridinger Estate, was build in the 1800's.

In the early 1970's, an old train caboose was added to provide a unique dining area. During the past decade, a rustic lounge, additional dinner seats, and a spacious 250-seat Banquet Facility have added to the charm of The Farmhouse.

                                                                                                    This is our special occasion go-to restaurant. The food is outstanding, the ambience is romantic for date night and the service is always warm and friendly, even when they are busy. Pricing is a tad high for the portion sizes, but totally worth it for a special night out.

                                                                                                    Wonderful experience on New Year’s Eve. Cocktails n the bar prior to seating. Tina, our waitress, was magnificent. Despite crowds for NYE, she was so attentive. Shrimp cocktail appetizer delivered quickly and was delicious. Cocktails were great. Our meal, prime rib and crab cakes, were excellent. Too full to enjoy dessert with our dinner, we took home to have later in the evening. Chocolate mousse cake so rich, and creamy. Peanut butter pie great too.

                                                                                                    Overall lack of attention. Particularly, our table was poorly bused. Dirty dishes remained way too long. I had to ask that they be removed. A dirty salad dish was still on the table when our dessert was presented.

                                                                                                    This was our first time at The Farmhouse and it wasn’t what we expected. We didn’t care for the seating (stuck back in a corner, tight seating, uncomfortable). Our server left a lot to be desired. He kept telling us (at least five times) how short staffed they were. There was one point he didn’t come to our table for at least 30 minutes. We requested more rolls and by the time they came everyone was done eating. All in all we just thought it would be a better experience. Oh well, live and learn.

                                                                                                    We had a reservation and arrived 5 minutes early. Had to wait for our table while others after us were seated. Sat us at a table for 4 even though reservation was for 2. Open table asked if it was a special occasion but nothing was mentioned while we were there. Server didn't ask us if we wanted drinks, bread kept being promised and eventually came (ran out). Utensils were dirty. Booth bench very uncomfortable but cozy vibe. Food was very good. I would not make this a regular spot.

                                                                                                    We were underwhelmed by this "regional institution." Food was ho-hum, and our first entree arrived incorrectly plated. Salmon and carrots were smothered in butter and brown sugar. Trout was a better substitute. Other entrees were nothing special. All in all: Will work in a pinch, but can't recommend highly.

                                                                                                    I found this restaurant a few months when visiting and looking for a place to take my son for his 27th birthday. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic. The ambiance inviting. The service excellent. They had an extensive wine list as well. I planned to take my wife when we both came to visit our son and we made the dinner at The Farmhouse the first thing we did. As it was the first time, everything was first rate. Perfect steaks and the prime rib was "The best I ever tasted" according to my son. We will make a trip to The Farmhouse a tradition whenever we come to Christiansburg.
