The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Our server did a good job. Timely service and no complaints. The food was all done well and tasted great. However, the NY strip I ordered med-rare came out med-well and quite tough. Also, the chicken in the stroganoff was not de-boned completely and my partner had bit into a piece hard while eating. She doesn’t care to have any bone-in meats and was unable to enjoy her meal after that incident. In the low level lighting we couldn’t see well enough to notice any bones in the chicken and it was not disclosed that there would be any. I’m pretty sure she’s ok but it was a close call I need you to be aware of. We have been coming to the Lexington for over 5 years 1-2 times a year and have never had any issues before. I hope the next visit remains consistent with our past experiences and this was just a bad night. I know they happen. Thank you for having us.
