The Monocle is the closest restaurant to the Capitol building, United States Senate and Union Station. Established in 1960, The Monocle is not only known as a Washington institution, but also for its fine American cuisine-served by a professional and friendly team of servers. You can always count on being served great crab-cakes, grilled fresh fish, prime steaks and chops, while enjoying the powerful political scenery. The private Federal Room is a Washington classic for private parties and political fundraisers. The Wine Room is a cozy room for your intimate private birthday dinner of six to ten. Cheers!

    Klassieke en formeler restaurant met ouderwets goede en vriendelijke bediening . Direct gelegen bij het capitol. Prima steaks gegeten en lekkere wijn die nog enigszins betaalbaar was

    BLT salad, linguine with clams, NY strip, caprese salad and crème brûlée all phenomenal! Perfect serving sizes, short wait times, excellent staff and drinks. The pomegranate martinis was perfectly sweet. Great experience!

    We enjoyed excellent cocktails, warm and tasty seafood bisque, steak or liver with bacon and onions in a quiet, friendly atmosphere, with outstanding service. And a relatively early dinner reservation allowed us easy parking across the street.

    We enjoyed our food and experience at the monocle! E we arrived at an is for dinner, but the stuff was very kind. The ambiance was nice but a little dated.

    Good and service were excellent. The venue was very busy with large groups so it was somewhat loud. I don’t believe there was much the staff could do about it

    Love this legendary place. Sure, the buidling has a few years on it but it's like walking into the CHEERS bar. The team there remembered me even though I havent been there in two years. And I love the fact that it is the same team over many years. I definitely need to be coming back here more often and will up it in my rotation. My thanks to these folks

    It was fantastic to finally experience dinner at The Monocle! From the moment we walked in the door to the beautiful and classy interior we knew we’ve made the right choice for our dinner! The staff was very helpful and attentive while not being at all obtrusive throughout the evening. We both loved the flavorful shellfish bisque which was very generous with pieces of lobster, crab & shrimp. I chose the jumbo lump crabcake with special sauce for my entrée and it was truly delicious and the fresh crisp vegetables on the side were delightful. My husband greatly enjoyed his perfectly cooked filet mignon with red wine sauce. We shared the lemon curd pie for dessert and it was just the right ending for a wonderful! We look forward to our next trip back so that we can dine here again.
