Set inside an impressive 16th Century building, the Oak Room at Great Fosters hotel is an elegant setting for any occasion. Guests can relax with pre-dinner drinks in the cocktail bar, or sit outside on the Terrace in warmer weather. The Oak Room itself is full of character, with exposed beams and large windows complementing the refined modern décor. Head Chef Simon Bolsover specialises in modern British cuisine and creates a seasonal market menu each day, which is available at lunch and dinner alongside the a la carte. Popular dishes include grilled sea bass with hand-rolled gnocchi; fillet of beef with smoked potato puree; and Cumbrian lamb with cep risotto. The attentive service and unpretentious atmosphere complete this unforgettable dining experience.

Beautiful hotel, lovely Oak Dining Room only spoilt but the hideous blue rug which is fixed to the wall and completely out of character with the rest of the building. Interesting brain challenge to exit the car park in the dark unless you stumble across the intercom which is a distance from the car park barrier. Food & service were very good although Bellini was disappointing as the champagne glass was served at only 2/3 full. Maître’d was very good, obviously well trained and well spoken

Great Fosters was a real find for us, as it's on a regular route. Good food, well served.

The food was fantastic, and the place itself is one of my favourites. It is so relaxing and warm. This time we were very disappointed with the service, it got worse. There was no communication between the waiting staff. Everybody was very nice, especially the manager but we waited a long time for our drinks which didn't arrive at the same time. this continued throughout the whole meal.

Oak Room at Great Fosters was it's normal high quality/good value self. Portland crab then rump of lamb washed down with a nice burgundy = couldn't be better.

Has not changed hence I keep visiting FANTASTIC ambience food brilliant, everytime I visit nothing bad to sa, if you have not been you must go.

Great fosters was a lovely venue for a celebratory lunch. The treacle tart was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Also love the basket of all their different delicious homemade breads. Service is very friendly and helpful with menu and wine choices without being too formal. Always a tasty veggie option on the menu.

Mmm - The Oak Room has slipped since my last visit a couple of years ago. The food, whilst good, imaginative and very well presented , was of nouvelle cuisine portion sizes and Michelin prices. The wine list was good but a fair bit over-priced. All-in-all a return visit is unlikely. The splendid room was spoiled byn thumping wedding-disco music from a function next door and was a bit chilly - almost forgiveable as it was -4 degrees outside.

Outstanding Service. Beautiful location. Seating Perfect next to a real fire. Which was my request. Portions on the small size. Attention to detail cannot fault.

Excellent food, if niggardly portions, but truly abysmal service Twice I had to go hunting for staff; to take our main order and to pay The room itself is an un-atmospheric barn - it's too high, too quiet, too dull I recommend keeping well away unless you're booking a group and bringing your own 'atmosphere'
