                                                                                            This Festive Afternoon tea was certainly overpriced for the food we received. We had 3 finger sandwiches, one cold sausage roll, and some duck pate on brioche, and each item was minute. The warm scones we brought out at the same time as the other food, so we cold upon eating them. The patiserrie items looked very attractive, but totally lacked any flavour. We had a £40 bottle of fizz and 12% service charge made this a whooping £154. Certainly not value for money, and will not be returning again.

                                                                                            Festive afternoon tea was disappointing in comparison to the standard afternoon tea which we have had previously. Presentation was visually pleasing but lacked flavour and taste. Nice dining room, and lovely Christmas decor.

                                                                                            I cannot recommend The Rise enough. This was my chosen venue for my birthday treat from my son. To coin a phrase: “ Our meal tonight was spectacular!” I’m my words: “perfection!” The beef wellington was mouthwatering and the suggested paired wine made it all the more perfect! The service was first class and our waiter was both attentive and professional, Thank you TK all at The Rise. 🍷

                                                                                            Attentive service and the starters and mains were delicious, however there was very little choice for vegetarians. Dessert was poor in terms of choice. I had a tiramisu which was not prepared properly. A 12.5 per cent service charge was slapped on the bill automatically which I do t agree with. The waiter happily took it off but you have to ask!

                                                                                            It was my birthday. We were made to feel very welcome. Advice about the menu was good. The options were excellent. Food quality high. Service first class. We followed the wine pairings advice. And the value for money was excellent. I can definitely recommend the Rise at the Grand in York

I have over my many years eaten in various places for afternoon tea but I must confess at the GRAND HOTEL, York, is most definately the best. My compliments to the chefs who prepare the food (sandwiches, scones and cakes). You can taste every flavour. Well done, you most definitely get my vote 100% and excellent value for money.
