Hiraeth; a term unique to Wales and Welsh culture, an intangible pull on the heart that conveys a deep sense of belonging, the desire to return to the place of one’s birth, to come home. For The Shed Restaurant and Executive Chef Jonathan Woolway, our place in the world is happily Swansea.
Composed along the expanse of Swansea Bay, flanked by the Gower Peninsula and Brecon Beacons, within striking distance of the fertile valleys, coastal plains and farmland of West Wales, the Waterfront City of Swansea sits at the beating heart of nature’s larder. Bounties of the season from land, sea and pasture are at our fingertips.
Our daily changing menus reflect a constant creative evolution, making use of local produce at the very place and moment of their seasonal prime. This begins in the kitchen and is realised at the table; Egalitarian, convivial and accessible to all. Full in heart and generous of spirit.

    I booked a family meal for five at The Shed Swansea, hoping for a pleasant get-together after not seeing my family for 12 months due to working away. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. Upon being seated, we noticed the tables were wonky and had to request wedges to stabilize them—something basic that should have been addressed beforehand. We ordered from the set menu, which included a free drink. I specifically requested a non-alcoholic beverage but was initially served an alcoholic one. When I finally received the non-alcoholic drink, it tasted like dishwater—undrinkable. My partner and I ordered a meal for two, which came with mash potato. However, it was clear this was instant “smash” potato rather than fresh, and no vegetables accompanied the dish—just pie and potato. The lack of balance in the meal was disappointing, to say the least. For dessert, three of us chose the apple tart with custard, only to be served heavily burnt tarts. Adding to the frustration, each course took an excessively long time to arrive, leaving us sitting and waiting far too long between dishes. Given the premium prices this restaurant charges, the quality and service were far below expectations. It seems like this place is trying to present itself as something it is not. Sadly, what should have been a special family meal was dampened by this poor experience. I will not be returning, nor would I recommend this restaurant to others.

    Another wonderful meal. The quality is 100% I’m a vegetarian,my husband is not. We both had delicious meals and the deserts are to die for! Staff are friendly and very helpful. The Shed was beautifully decorated for Christmas,it gave a warm welcoming feeling. We had an early table-5.30pm- it was quiet,but there had been a storm! We left around 7.20pm and it was very busy.

    Can see the St John influence but food was very good, decent wine list and service very friendly. Definitely recommend

    Food outstanding and different. Customer service very efficient & friendly just right. It was relatively quiet but the weather was atrocious. They opened a door for us to get out of the rain quicker than using another door so very attentive. Fabulous choice of drinks & the cocktails were delicious. Perfect for a special occasion.

    The Shed is a nice place to eat. The loft style, old dockside warehouse works well as a restaurant space with lots of space and an open kitchen with smartly dressed, busy chefs offering an interesting menu. The food is very good. Our servers were both very good - efficient and pleasant to talk to.
