The Sword Inn Hand is a 14th Century Free House with guest rooms nestled in the beautiful rural Hertfordshire village of Westmill, a mile south of the market town of Buntingford. With bar, dining room, mature landscaped gardens and charming country inspired guest rooms, it is the perfect countryside retreat for drinking, dining and relaxing. Seasonal produce is delivered to us daily by our fantastic local suppliers, and we pride ourselves on serving delicious fine food and traditional ales. Our friendly yet professional customer service and warm, relaxing atmosphere inspires our lovely customers to return week after week, and welcomes new visitors from far and wide. Great location. Great food. Love the menu. Some very interesting dishes. Loved the guiness and marmite butter on sourdough. My venison suet pudding was delicious. Great service. Lovely staff.

We would usually give this place 5/5 but we weren’t thrilled with the venison ‘suet’ pudding - it wasn’t really a suet pudding and the cloves/nutmeg/allspice flavour was a bit too strong, completely overpowering the venison. Overall the food was good but maybe not quite as excellent as usual

Quite fantastic lunch out with friends. Our favourite place. Staff wonderful, menu wonderful, food spectacular. And a guest with allergies well catered for by well informed staff. Joy

Excellent! Really loved the food, superb quality and taste. Every member of staff was polite and friendly. A little on the expensive side, beyond value for money, much as it was a fabulous experience.

Tom and his team were fantastic in accommodating our requirements. The service was superb, the staff were just brilliant, always smiling, very friendly and knowledgeable also 10/10. The food was superb. It is our second visit and we still haven’t found any restaurant better in the area. The Tandoori Tempura Scampi Monkfish starter was absolutely phenomenal and deserves a prize, that would have received 11/10! The only issue for us was my 14 year old complaining about the fact that the fabulous Lancashire Hotpot that he chose on our last visit wasn’t on the menu and he was extremely disappointed, until he tasted the Schnitzel and gave that 10/10 also!!!!!! Well done Sword, a fantastic meal and experience, see you again soon, thanks Tom and team. Neil, Claire and Josh

We were originally supposed to be a party of 8 however after some cancellations it turned out to be just 2 of us. I called the pub but there was no answer and the mailbox was full. I left my number on the open table app and Tom called me back he had never issues changing our booking. When we arrived we were sat down at our table Tom came and introduced himself. The staff were all so lovely and very attentive. The pubs atmosphere was buzzing but not to noisy, lovely decor and a warm family feeling. The food was fresh piping hot and cooked to perfection, we would recommend to anyone. We will be returning no doubt about that.
