A Saturday evening dinner was a full house with a youthful vibe. The menu is sparse, but the the food was first rate. Unfortunately, the bartender could not resist adding vermouth to Grey Goose, despite an explicit request to the contrary, but the service was prompt and attentive. Much about this bistro is attractive, but I would not return if I intended to have conversation with a table mate. The music level was beyond tolerable, and there is nothing inside the four walls to dampen the natural noise level of a crowd. If one is looking for a very good meal with pleasant conversation, this is not the place. If ambiance and tempo are more important than talking, this is a good option.

Really enjoyed this place. It was cool and vibe was awesome. I love the area of La Jolla it was in and can’t wait to go back. Oh by the way the kale salad was the salad I ever had.

What stood out most was our server...EXCELLENT! George went above and beyond; he knew the menu, made suggestions and was so attentive! The caesar salad was divine! Thank you!

Beef tartare and gnocchi pasta with mushrooms and lobster were bomb dot com. Please add these NYE specials to the permanent menu. Love the hamburger dessert.

The Whaling Bar is hands down our favorite local spot, whether it’s for a cozy date night or an evening out with friends. The atmosphere is fantastic, the cocktails are exceptional, and the food never disappoints. We love everything on the menu, but our personal favorites are the celery salad, Caesar salad, the baos, and the chicken—each dish is perfectly executed. We’re also lucky enough to have George as our server every time we dine here. He’s simply the best, making every visit even more memorable with his friendly demeanor and excellent service. And don’t forget to save room for dessert! The burger dessert is an absolute must-try. We can’t wait to come back again soon!
