Uncle Bacala’s specializes in Italian-style seafood and other inventive dishes in its warm and cozy New Hyde Park eatery. For a tantalizing start to your meal, enjoy the mozzarella in carrozza cheese-stuffed fried country bread and the mashed potato and mozzarella croquettes, both served with marinara sauce. Some of Uncle Bacala’s house entrées include the breaded salmone in agrodolce served over eggplant in a honey garlic sauce, the beef filetto di manzo with mushrooms, roasted potatoes and spinach in gorgonzola-cognac sauce and the apricot-glazed grilled pork chop.                                                                                                             We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation. After a 10 minute wait we were seated. I ordered the baked cams and my wife had the zucchini flowers. Both were very good. For dinner I had veal sorrentino. The veal was a little tough. My wife had the short ribs. She said they were excellent. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Overall our experience was ok , but when we tried to pay with a gift certificate the waitress informed us that “gift certificates were not valid on Holidays. We have been to many restaurants and never encountered this issue.

                                                                                                            We went for an early dinner on NYE and initially thought it was going to be nuts with the crowd already there at 6pm. Was pleasantly surprised! The meal was was delicious. Got the special angel hair pasta with shrimp and lobster was delicious wish this would stay in menu! Customer service excellent even with crowd kept checking on us and food came out piping hot Will be back and highly recommend!

                                                                                                            Peter is all over everything including food, staff and bar. So friendly to all of the customers. Bacala's has been there for so many years when prior to this restaurants came and go at this location. Peter Hewitson is the difference. He is passionate about the restaurant and is always there with a smile and running all over keeping things running smoothly.
