Uncle Bacala’s specializes in Italian-style seafood and other inventive dishes in its warm and cozy New Hyde Park eatery. For a tantalizing start to your meal, enjoy the mozzarella in carrozza cheese-stuffed fried country bread and the mashed potato and mozzarella croquettes, both served with marinara sauce. Some of Uncle Bacala’s house entrées include the breaded salmone in agrodolce served over eggplant in a honey garlic sauce, the beef filetto di manzo with mushrooms, roasted potatoes and spinach in gorgonzola-cognac sauce and the apricot-glazed grilled pork chop. We decided to try Uncle Bacalas because they were running an attractive anniversary special and we are so happy we did! The food was excellent as well as the ambiance, ( beautifully decorated … old school Italian with red checkered tablecloths). Our waiter , “Carmine” was professional and courteous and the Cosmopolitan cocktails were the best we’ve ever had! This will be a favorite spot for dinner from now on. 😊

Overall, it was a good dining experience. The mussels appetizer was very good. The sea bass, mixed seafood over pasta and linguine in clam sauce were all very good. However, the chicken scarparella mixed the mark. It was unusually prepared in a gravy which detracted from the dish. We all have eaten this dish numerous times and did not like this preparation. The staff was pleasant and the ambiance was bustling.

I went because. the restaurant was offering a prix fixe 3 course lunch at a 1970s price. The food, and service were excellent. the portion sizes were quite generous. I will definitely go back.

We only went to take advantage of their 20th anniversary special. Food is nothing spectacular, but acceptable. Small portion of pasta appetizer as well as very small portion of sole entree. Risotto was mushy. Service was friendly, if sporadic. Asked for lemon and never received. Utensils were cleared away and dessert brought without new utensils. Nice bread basket served with delicious sauce.
