We were celebrating a birthday and wanted some seafood so we tried Vola's. Our experience was mixed: Ups: Good oysters, excellent crab hushpuppies, chocolate fudge cake, herb-crusted rockfish, cole slaw. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. Overall value was good (about $50/person for 2 appetizers, 4 meals, 4 drinks, 1 dessert at an old town Alexandria restaurant) Mehs: Shrimp fettuccine: had exactly 6 shrimp. Market fish sandwich - modestly-sized and the thin piece of grouper was overwhelmed by spices. Downs: AMBIENCE! 1) Uncovered concrete floor, glass walls, industrial ceiling ensured that no sound went unheard. This problem was amplified by piped-in music that made us have to repeat our meal and drink orders several times for the server to correctly understand. 2) Low lighting at our table forced me to break out my phone to comfortably see the menu. There was a light at the table but it ran out of juice.

Vola’s Dockside Grill is the perfect spot to ring in the New Year! The festive atmosphere, combined with their scenic waterfront views, made for a truly memorable evening. Their special New Year’s Eve menu was a delight — the Surf & Turf was cooked to perfection, and the stuffed Maine lobster tail was absolutely decadent. The service was outstanding despite the holiday crowd. The staff ensured every detail was taken care of, making the evening feel smooth and celebratory. Bonus points for their expertly crafted cocktails that complemented the meal perfectly! We loved watching the fireworks over the Potomac from their cozy outdoor patio. It was a stunning way to toast to the new year. Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening or a lively gathering with friends, Vola’s truly delivers an unforgettable New Year’s Eve experience. Highly recommend booking early for next year!

I really wish we would have gotten our server's name, she was literally one of the best we have ever had. Sweet, personable and genuinely concerned that we enjoyed everything. I wasn't wild about the fish special so she brought a new dish (shrimp fettuccine) that was delish. Everyone working there managed the chaos of New Year's Eve beautifully.
