The oldest remaining structure in Denver’s iconic Union Station neighborhood, historic Hose House No. 1 was one of the first fire stations in Denver. Established as a volunteer fire station in 1881, before the City of Denver created a paid fire department, it has been lovingly restored and re-imagined as an iconic, inclusive kitchen & bar.

Named after one of Denver’s earliest fire foremen, Redwood “Woodie” Fisher, Woodie Fisher Kitchen & Bar reflects the historic building’s symbol of heritage, quality, and character. Those same values return to the historic Hose House through intentional, thoughtful design and menu items that will surprise, intrigue, and welcome.

Located on the corner of 20th and Chestnut on the edge of Denver’s Union Station, Lower downtown and Ballpark neighborhoods, Woodie Fisher is an ideal location for baseball fans, city explorers, and local neighbors.

The restaurant was not busy, maybe 1/4 full. There were two wait staff, but our food came out very slowly. Our drinks came out fairly quickly. Our appetizers took forever. Two of our three appetizers were cold to the touch (calamari and meatballs). We sent one back to be rewarmed /replaced. The other was mostly eaten because we were so hungry. Then it took over 30 minutes for our entrees to come out. These were okay-ish on temperature. One was just bad and went uneaten. Our reservation was at 6:45pm but we couldn’t leave until 8:15pm because (again) it took a while to get our check and then another chunk of time to get our credit card processed. Restaurant is beautiful and in a cool old firehouse. Everyone was pleasant, some even gracious and helpful. Despite not being full, the noise level was really high. One of us got a migraine from the noise. Disappointed it wasn’t better overall. This was a birthday celebration and so many aspects were so disappointing. We will not return.

The food was very good, and our waitress, Mia, was excellent. It was quiet enough to allow us to visit with our friends. Easy to get to and free valet parking next door at Hilton Garden Inn. It is located in a very interesting historic building.

Very limited entree selection and they were out of the one we most wanted to order. When you only have 5 entrees on your dinner menu you can’t be out of one before 6pm.

Everything ordered was delicious. Top quality chef. The staff was informative. Our waitress was helpful and had great social skills.
