We always find the food very good at Stokes and enjoy eating there. I would suggest however that Stokes invest a little time to come up with a decent house margarita. The one I received tasted like pure sugar water on ice with no taste of alcohol or lime. The thing is, this has been my typical experience at Stokes. Of course the Stokes “Top Shelf” margaritas are much better at $9.25 a pop versus $5.95 for the house version, but I lose respect for bars that serve watery, unsatisfying drinks just to weasel people into spending more. Many people I know choose restaurants as much for the quality of drinks as they do for the food. If you want good Tex-Mex food, go to Stokes, but if you want a good drink to go with it, you might be disappointed.

The ambience and our meals were terrific. The service was OK; however, we felt almost rushed by our wait-person, who wanted to take our plates away as quickly as possible. She even took away one of my fellow diners’ plates while he was still chewing (and wasn’t quite done with his meal). Bad form.

Four of us dined at Stokes Saturday evening- all first time patrons. We had the empanadas for an appetizer- a little crisp- but still delicious. My husband had the steak with a spicy poblano sauce- he said the steak had great flavor and was very tender. The rest of us had the brisket tacos, with excellent beans and rice. We shared the caramel bananas with vanilla ice cream for dessert. We all were impressed with the large selection of unusual items - all sounded good- hard to decide what to order! If there is one thing that could be improved, it would be the lighting at the tables- a bit hard to read the menu!!!

Monday nights are slow and quiet, perfect for dates! Food is super delicious and so are the margaritas. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fancy place to eat but don’t want to spend too much money.

The food is always great! We tried something new and it was awesome. The service staff are always friendly and accommodating. Our party had someone with a special request and the chef was able to address his need. I appreciated having access to book online. I
