Sushi Ran is a longstanding Japanese restaurant located in Sausalito, California that specializes in sushi. The restaurant prepares menu items utilizing fresh fish delivered from Tokyo daily and features a casual, family friendly dining atmosphere.

This is only a review for today’s experience so I’m sure something was just off. Usually Sushi Ran is one of my favorite restaurants in Marin. I’ve been going there for 25 years and it’s always been amazing and definitely one of the best sushi spots in Marin. Today, the waitress got one of my sushi orders wrong and when I told her that it was not what I ordered- she tried to convince me it was. I reluctantly kept it even though I didn’t eat it and ordered another roll. When the new roll came, I was so disappointed. The same roll I always order that’s always been a 10/10 was maybe a 4/10 today- If that. I really hope next time we go back, things go back to what they were.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Sushi Ran. The service the Sushi Ran team provides is excellent and with such care and sincere joy. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented. They made celebrating our daughter’s milestone birthday very special throughout and with a sweet treat to end the evening.

The serving staff are very good, cheerful, attentive and on the ball. Overall ambience is good, nice setup with various rooms and outside dining options. The food continues to be of good quality and I would suggest ordering from the small plates and sharing these. That way you can enjoy a greater variety and as they say variety is the spice of life. The only criticism we’d have is that out of the 7 dishes we chose 4 were rather liberally infused with yuzu. The upshot was that rather than x with yuzu it became yuzu with a soupçon of x.

The fat king salmon cut from New Zealand with white soy sauce was the best sushi I’ve ever had. The octopus, snapper, tuna, unagi and miso soup was also delicious. Excellent drinks as well.. did not disappoint, will be back!
